This week has been really busy. I can't believe I can say this, but I've actually got a lot done. Haven't been able to say that since Scarlet was born. Here's a few pics.
Greg cooking with Scarlet in the Moby.
She's very interested.
Me, trying to get a pic of us.
Scarlet and I actually spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, together. I'll hold her but want to stare at her, so I just go look at her in the mirror and we stare at each other. Now we just play in front of the mirror. ALL THE TIME!!! Lately, I'll stand her up and she'll lift one foot at a time like she's walking! I've been really surprised! (I'm talking, really light, just motions)
Tried to get some pics, but I wasn't TOO successful. Scarlet is 4 months, today.
Here's a good one.
Scarlet is CONSTANTLY munching on her hands now. I mean ALWAYS. If she's bundled up, and unable to, she won't. Otherwise, nibble, nibble, nibble.
As far as picture taking, the hands are in her mouth or she's just hypnotized by the camera.
Can you believe this hair? People always talk about it, but I was always so used to it. I'd never seen her any other way. But LOOK AT IT!!!! It is insane! It's getting so long and starting to get scraggly and making me want to cut it a little. But I don't want to poke her eye out, so . . . someday.
I always forget to give her "tummy time". Is it THAT important? I don't know. If it's just for neck muscles and head lifting, she's had that down since day one. But I feel like I'm preventing her from rolling over or something, since I never put her down this way.
It may sound crazy, and maybe I'm way off- but I think she might be teething. I wondered awhile ago since she has been SOOOOOOO slobbery but figured it was WAY too early and brushed it off. Then I randomly was told by a man at the gas station that his 4 month old cut his first tooth and got another one before his 5th month. YIKES!!! Then there's the constant hand gnawing. But I didn't think much of it until the last few days out of NOWHERE she goes BESERK!!!! And I can't calm her. And she is the calmest, most soothable baby ever. I can always calm her down. And then out of nowhere it will stop, for no reason. And it will happen randomly during a feed too. And it is INSTANT and LOUD and there will be these moments where it's like she's whining and so upset. But it's different. Like cries she's never done before. I don't know. Either a tooth will show or it won't. Oh yeah, and she's such a good sleeper and the last week has been consistently waking up 3 times a night, not to mention, isn't going down nearly as easy either. These are all things that were online for symptoms, since I wouldn't really know. There were others that matched up too. The only one that didn't is feeling bumps in her mouth and seeing inflammation. But it's kinda impossible to look in there, and I did feel some bumps, but for all I know they were always there. I don't know. We'll see.
As for the rest of her life, she LOVES to be sung to. I mean LOVES it. She likes when Greg plays guitar for her and I'm always singing Primary songs to her and moving her hands for the motions. It's fun. Until this week, we were walking outside almost everyday. She likes that too, she just stays really calm the whole time. Greg and I were making fruit leather out of applesauce and gave her a little taste from my finger. She didn't really react, but it made me SOOOOO excited to feed her. I think we're going to really soon. Don't worry, we will document. She loves to play and laughs more each week. I LOVE IT. Oh man, it pretty much makes me tear up every time. She keeps getting more plump and it's so fun. I really want to take a pic of her from behind, because that's where the rolls really are. She's a cutie.
As for me, life seems to be back. The kitchen's always clean, the laundry always gets done. There is never a moment where EVERYTHING is done, like I haven't vacuumed since Scarlet was born and REALLY need to. But I've accomplished so much this week! Organizing and such. I meant to wax my legs LAST WEEK and still haven't, so now I just have really hairy legs. When I think back on the first few months, man- what a difference. It is just really hard in the beginning. So hard. I'm glad that part is over, not that it's EASY. Man, I have NO IDEA how working mothers do it. I would be a basket case, living in a pig stye and eating pastaroni the rest of my life if I had to work AND take care of a baby and the house. It's such a full time job! The work NEVER ends. I swear I'm always doing laundry. Anyway, even though Scarlet's been unusually fussy this week and more demanding, life seems to be getting better and better and easier and easier. I feel like I finally have a grasp on my calling. Ha, I've only showered about 3 times this week- that gives me more time to accomplish things, doesn't it? Oh my gosh. Ate an incredible salad the other day. Yeah, none of this matters. I'm just exhausted and rambling. OH YES!!! And best news of all!!!! Still losing weight! I was 157 (27 pounds more than my pre-pregnancy weight). Then I joined weight watchers and didn't follow it and GAINED 2 more pounds! Then I actually DID follow the program and am now down to 149! Hoorah! I'm feeling better and better everyday! It's nice to be slowly fitting into my old wardrobe, bit by bit. I feel sexy until I sit down and get a look at my stomach and think, "Is this thing every going away?" Then I remember I'm not done losing and it too will hopefully melt away, atleast some of it- I hope! Ok, I'm tired. Oh yeah, turning 29 this week, but who wants to talk about that?
Oh I almost forgot, the most exciting news of all. Greg and I went on a date! I was feeling SO desperate and in need and then I realized, we haven't been out ALONE since she was 3 weeks old!!!!! Oh my. No wonder I was feeling so crazy for a night out. And now that Scarlet's so old, and Pat and Randy have been around her so much, it was easy breezy to leave her behind. Oh man, as soon as we left I felt on cloud 9. I was so ecstatic and couldn't stop saying how good I felt and how excited I was. It felt great. We had sushi and saw Harry Potter, because I still hadn't seen it.

oh my gosh- all the pics are so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS SO ADORABLE_ I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! uhh she is so perfect! loved all the stories. Glad life is back to normal. that is so funny you haven't vacummed in that long! I'm not excited for those first months of new baby in the home, it sounds so tiring and chaotic. I like organization. I think that will be hard for me! I think you hit the working mom right on the nail- pastaroni baby. love you!-
hahah I loooove your rambling. It makes me smile. I'm so happy for you that you are losing weight and getting things done! Sounds like you are really getting in the rhythm of things. I'm so glad. Scarlet is so freaking cute! I love her chubby self! And I love her hair! Don't cut it! Pretty soon you could like put her hair in pig tails or something! Talk about WAY cute! I just love her so much. Thanks for blogging- I love you!!!!!!
She is soooooo cute!! I loved the blog. I am so happy that you are getting some of your life back. It's hard when you have a family. It's always amazing how doing laundry and being caught up can make you so happy! Ha, but it does. The tummy will go down as you lose and with time. I never went back to my original body, but I still got back pretty thin. Congrats on the weight loss! I love the pics of her in the Moby. I love watching babies watching us do things. They are so intent and curious. Yes she is teething. The bad news is that she might do that for two months before that first one comes through. For me the first one took for ever with all of you. I can't believe you haven't been going on dates!!!! That is a must! love you!!!
Scarlet looks so cute! I love the ones of her on her stomach at an angle. I think she has definitely gotten fatter.
I am glad that you got to go out and see Harry Potter. We just went and saw it last night and I loved it! I thought it was so good. I hope you have a good birthday! :)
She is so so so cute. The picture of both of you in the mirror is my favorite. Her hair is incredible. I love it. Kate's was the same, but I never realized how incredible it was until I had Elle, and her's is NOT like that. DON'T cut it. Just put a little clip in it if it gets in her face.
I'm glad life seems easier. It always feels better at 6 months too. Just a lot better.
She does sound like she's teething. And Mom's right. It'll be like that on and off for months before you even see a tooth.
Glad you got to go out. So nice you have pat and randy there. Love you!!!!
She's so adorable. The first few months is so hard right?! I've been around babies my whole life and I never imagined how exhausted I would be. And the housework thing- so true, laundry is about all I do and my floor has been vacuumed regularly but only because Cami will ONLY sit in the swing if the vacuum is going, ha! I'm slowly feeling like life is getting back to a new normal and I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who thinks it's a hard adjustment!
Oh and the tummy time is so important. It's one of the main things we have to do for Camden's therapy because it strengthens the back and core muscles for motor development later. According to her therapist not enough tummy time anymore is the reason that our society "is full of uncoordinated kids who can't kick a ball or run right" Haha, she was exagerating and joking a bit but it's still important. And people are more scared these days to do it because of the whole SIDS thing and sleeping on their backs -- but during the day it's good for them. That being said I know it's SO hard to want to do it when your kid is screaming and flailing there arms around like their going to die if they lay on their tummy (At least that's what Cami wants to do sometimes!)
So glad th hear that things are going so much better. My experience is that when I think things are going so well, something else comes along and throws a monkey wrench in my day. So is life, right? Brecken has been slobbering and nibbling his hands since about 4 months and nothing is poking through. Not even close. However, he did go beserk on us about 2 months ago out of no where. We are not the type to run to the doctor but we did because it was so odd. He ended up having an ear infection. With ear infections, sometimes babies cry or struggle eating because it hurts so much. Again, Brecken recently got fussy out of no where so we took him in on Saturday and he ended up having a viral skin infection. Weird...but that was causing the change in personality for a bit. It is so hard with babies because they can't tell you what is wrong like my 4 year old. I've read and heard of babies getting teeth at 2 months old and up. In rare cases they can be born with a tooth. Isn't that the creepiest thing. i was also going to mention what Heidi said about tummy time. Brecken hates it and as a result he has no interest in rolling yet and he should totally be doing that. Anyway, she is a cutie. Her hair just cracks me up. I can't believe she has that much.
Love reading your ramblings. She's so gorgeous, don't you dare cut that hair!
Babies can be teething for months before you see a teeth come through...at least that's what our dr has said. Fun times.
Great job on weight watchers, keep at it...I'm sure you look fabulous. The stomach though...I don't know if that ever goes away. Mine sure hasn't.
How fun, it's BIRTHDAY WEEK for you!! I hope you have a great week!!
Love you!
She has such a mop of hair! I love it. She is so beautiful. It is so hard at first with a new born especially your first one. Now you two are pros at it! lv Aunt Rosie
