What can I say- I'm pretty dang pleased with how our costumes turned out. I mean seriously- we look pretty awesome. Ok I'm laughing now, because in reality we look pretty ridiculous- but that's why it's so awesome!

I couldn't get over how cute Brighton was. He was the cutest little wolf! It fit so well and the little tail behind him! He won first place for infant- 3yr. old costumes! I just KNEW he would. He was just so CUTE in it! Really he was!
Scarlet won 2nd or 3rd, I don't know which. They were in the same group. She's Little Red Riding Hood and Brighton was The Big Bad Wolf. She looked so amazing with the hood on, but wouldn't do it for the picture.

Greg and I won FIRST for the adults! I was so happy! It was a hit if you knew who we were, and if you didn't- those people just thought we looked so crazy, they loved it too and would ask to take a picture! It was funny because all the Americans would yell out "WILSON!!!!!" as we'd pass and the locals had no idea who we were. It was funny. We got the idea online and Greg did all the work. Figured out how to make it and then worked on it the 3 nights before our first party. He even made me a shirt with the red face on it, so I could be more comfortable later on in the night. I DID wear the shirt at his boss's party- and it really threw everyone. They asked if the shirt was originally wrapped AROUND the ball, or if I deflated somehow. So funny. But at the embassy party- I wore the ball the whole time. I even managed to hold Brighton for a couple minutes. Pretty impressive, if you ask me!

Last week Greg's boss threw a Halloween party- no kids allowed. It was GREAT. We got a sitter and it was so nice. Thursday we went to our playgroup Halloween Party and it was so lame. There was almost no one there and the person who was SUPPOSED to host, bailed last minute and gave it to someone else. I was so mad because over a month ago, when the list came out of who was hosting what- I was half excited that someone was throwing a halloween party and half jealous because I wanted to do it! And then it turned into nothing! Annoyance. There were 3 minor Halloweenish things at the party. 1- a jackolantern on the doorstep, 2- a SMALL bowl of snickers (I mean like a soup bowl), 3- MY kids and I dressed up. No one else. Not very halloweeny. Oh well.

Then we had the Embassy party and it was at night and there were endless cookies of ghosts and pumpkins and decorations and crowds and chaos and it was so fun! And the kids trick or treated at ONE door and there was a costume contest. I don't know, I was just needing some Halloween.

The Boles arrived. They are really nice and so are their kids. I was pretty busy preparing for their arrival. We had a potluck at our house yesterday so they could meet some people. 25 PEOPLE CAME OVER!!! YIKES!!!! That's a full house. Oh man. I was really overwhelmed the first hour. Everyone came in one big swoosh and kids were running everywhere, breaking things. putting their glasses of water right next to our electrical stuff. It was all just crazy! I didn't like it. I think everyone had a good time.

Somehow I got sad last night about how Scarlet has no one to play with and I feel like it will never happen and Greg helped me realize I need to change my expectations. And it's true. Things are just not gonna be the way I want them. It doesn't mean they're going to be BAD, it just won't be the same as DC and I need to make the most of what we have here and roll with it. It's hard for me to wrap my head around my life when it is so different from everyone else's. The ONE friend that wasn't in school that is Scarlet's age- is starting school this week. It was such a blow, when his Mom told me. And her OTHER friend to play with- her brother has a SERIOUS hitting problem and so we're sort of not hanging out with them anymore. I hope it will resume soon. And then a new friend moved in, whom I LOVE, and they've only been here 3 weeks and she's talking about getting a job because she's going crazy at home. That was ANOTHER big blow, because I REALLY like her and want to hang with her a lot and it's not going to happen if she's working all the time. It's just how it is here. You move to a new place, a new language, you're super home bound at first, everything is hard and it's easier to just go to work where people speak english and you don't feel so alone and out of place and you sort of avoid the pain of finding your way. I don't know if it's a compliment to me that I'm sticking it out, waiting for things to take shape. But sometimes I just look around and see that EVERYONE is doing this- I mean EVERYONE and it makes me question my decisions. I just want to scream, "JUST WAIT! GIVE YOURSELF TIME!" But no one does. Everyone just puts their kids in school or with a nanny and works. Blah. Never ending story. Anyway, it's hard. I keep waiting for it to change, but I'm realizing it's not going to.

B keeps going back and forth between 2 and 1 nap. I never know what it's going to be until the day of so it makes it hard for planning! I hope he just switches to 1 and we can be done with it!

I decided I'm going to start doing things the way I used to do them. I mean plan my week before it happens. Get my playdates arranged, beforehand. Plan activities in the city. There is so much to do here and I just don't think of it on the spot, and then it's too late. And the menu. I need to plan my weekly menu, again. I used to do all these things and I felt so productive and everything just flowed. I want it to be that way again.

We've been here 5 months. I hung the last of the pictures this week and went through random piles of stuff that's just been sitting in corners the last 5 months. The house is officially gone through and organized! It makes me so happy and feel so good. It took longer than I expected.

There is a big fancy Marine Corp Ball in less than a week. It's a big deal and everyone goes and I ordered a dress online and it got lost in the mail. So I'm out a dress. I mean people get fancy like the Emmy's. I don't know what I'm going to do. It's hard enough finding a dress that covers up my body. I'm hoping someone has one I can borrow.

A couple people from church are leaving within 2 weeks. We're so excited for them to go home, of course, especially right before the holidays. But we're sort of sad to see them go. They've been at the transit center ever since we arrived and we've become friends. I wanna make them cookies today and bring them to church.

Wow!!! What a great post, and Brighton is a really cute wolf. I loved Scarlet in the Red Riding Hood one also. I am glad you are getting a few friends at least. Megan pray that some of these women can tough it out and learn to stay home. Heavenly Father will help them to realize that they need to be home and take care of their children. So pray for their hearts and minds to accept and understand these things. I love you so much and I am so thankful you post because it helps me to understand what is going on with you. I really do miss you guys and I hope your time goes fast. Maybe your next post won't be so far away. I think you guys look amazing in those costumes. I am still laughing when I see Greg, he looks really awful. Take really good care of yourselves. Hugs and Kisses

It's fun to see your costumes in all their glory :) I saw a lot of red riding hoods this year too, but none quite as cute! Love the wolf! Greg looks hilarious and actually pulls off a crazy beard. You looked great too. Our costumes were pretty standard this year. Jazzercisers and a Beastie Boy :) I know that friendships can take a while to form. I am so grateful for the friends that we had before even coming here {from dental school}. I have learned that I just have to put myself out there a bit more, and accept that things are good in a way I didn't expect. It is also really great to have a best friend as a husband :) Love you guys! We miss you all a lot, and wish we could see ya'll for the holidays...

Your costumes look great! What a fun idea! Scarlet and Brighton look adorable, as usual.

That's a bummer about the kids get together on halloween. It sounds like it had so much potential, and then just ended up being boring. That's so disappointing.

The napping - that's such a hard phase. I feel like Ari's almost ready to switch to one nap. I know she's kind of young, but I just keep feeling like she's ready. Maybe we'll try it for a week and see how it goes. It would be pretty great if Ari and Anna were both on 1 long nap.

Keep us posted on the Marine Corp ball. That sounds like a great excuse to get all glamed up.

Love and miss you!

All of your costumes are GREAT! I just love the kids they are so cute. And of course your guys's is awesome. I am pretty positive I've never seen that movie. I mean, I know the story and I know the story of the volleyball and everything so I think I've seen snippets, but I really need to watch it all the way through.

That sucks about all the moms working and kids in school. I feel so sorry for you! You really are amazing for sticking it out, cause it is NOT easy what you are doing. I just can't imagine it.

I've heard of this marine corps ball! These are the things where marines will ask celebrities to go with them and they sometimes will. I am SO BUMMED your dress got lost! Ugh!

The embassy party sounds like it was awesome! How fun to go to all these things.

That potluck at your house sounds stressful. I'm sure they appreciated it though.

I love you and miss you! Clay thinks he may be working late quite a bit this week so if he is I will try calling you...but if you are busy I understand.

Your costumes were fabulous, all of them! Sounds like you have been busy. I know you are bummed that play dates and such aren't working out but I commend you for even trying to get out there and do all of those things. I am such a hermit in my own home in a place where everything is familiar and we all speak the same language that i think if I moved to another country I would never leave my house.
