Sick as a Dog

Well it looks like I have pneumonia. Hip hop hooray! I was so bad Friday that Greg came to work with me and took care of the baby while I slept. Friday night was so awful that we called a doctor the next morning and he came to our apartment and looked at me. He only spoke french and Greg translated. He did a really good job. I was really impressed. I kept listening, trying to understand, and never caught a thing. He gave me 4 PRESCRIPTIONS!!!! (technically 5, but one was for my ecsema) He just kept writing and writing and writing. I heard that doctors here feel like they fail if they don't give you drugs to take home. So when he left I was freaking out thinking this is going to cost way too much money. He prescribed a medication I used before for my asthma- that alone cost $120 in the states w/o insurance coverage. None of our medications are covered on our insurance plan, so I am freaking out. Greg, who hasn't slept for days, because of my constant coughing, replies, "I don't care what it costs if it makes you better." So Greg goes out to buy everything and it was 77 euros! For 5 prescriptions! I couldn't believe it! I was elated! And the home visit (which should be covered) was only 55 euros. INSANE!!!! We were so relieved. Health care is so stinkin' expensive back home. And he came within an hour of when we called! He said if I don't get better in a week I'll need x-rays. I really hope I just get better. I'm really sick of being sick. And poor Greg, I always wake up around 2 in the morning and cough for a 1/2 hour, and then again at 5 in the morning. It's been pretty consistent. We're both ready for this to be over. Thank goodness,  I have the week off. I just really hope I get better before I have to go back. So we've just been on the couch watching America's Next Top Model, Project Runway, and Lost. These antibiotics are making me TIRED. I sleep so much now. But I don't really mind.

More exciting news!!!! Greg got an INTERNSHIP at NATO!!!!!!!!!! We have been wanting this before we even got here!!!! Greg is so excited! He has a TON of paperwork to fill out for a background check. IT IS CRAZY!!!! Just for an intern? I don't understand. He has to give all the addresses he's lived at the last 10 years. Greg has 8 addresses in Brazil he's been tracking down- it's been rough, but he's getting there. Once the background stuff is out of the way he'll start with just a couple days a week and then turn full time once school ends. Though it could change, he was told he'd be sitting in on meetings with ambassadors and writing up reports. Sounds pretty boring to me, but this is a really good step for his career. So this has been very good news, and will most likely extend our stay here, which kinda makes me happy. We've made so many good friends here, I'd be so sad if we left in 5 months.

If you're not caught up on LOST, don't read. Can you believe they're on the island? Can you believe it? I just can't believe it! They just got off!!!!! I'm so mad! However, saying that, this has been the best season ever!

Meg. I am so so sorry. That sucks. I can't imagine having pneumonia. How are you going to do your job? I guess you're not contageous after your on drugs? I'm glad your healthcare was so affordable for you. I wish one of us was there to take care of you. I hope you feel better soon. I can't believe a doctor came to your house. It reminds me of Anne of Green Gables, or an old movie where the dr. comes to you. Crazy, but very cool. ALso, my webcam still isn't working, I'm wondering if something is actually wrong with my computer. I'm trying to get it worked out.

Gregory!!! Congratulations!!!!! I am so excited for you! Even if you have some boring desk job, who cares!!! You will be working at NATO! The connections, the resume and I'm sure a million things you've already thought of. How cool. We're very excited for you.

Greg-Tanner looks like he's a bit naughty in the pictures, because he is. = )

3. I couldn't agree with you LESS! I am SO HAPPY they are back on the island! They all had such a better life on the island than they have right now. Hurley is goin bonkers, sayid is a lunatic murderer, sun has gone corporate monster, jack has gone to bum-drunk, and kate is so stressed with Aaron. The island will do them ALL a ton of good. I know that is where they will end up for life. I just know it.

Dear Megan, so sorry about the pneumonia, what a sad thing to happen. It is not something to be carless with, do everything he told you, drink all you can. I have had it twice, and because I was older I had it for two weeks each time. So my advice to you is as soon as you are well, get a shot for it so you will be safe for 5 years, and because of your ashma get a flu shot next fall without fail. You are compromised because of it and that makes you suceptable to any bug that comes along. I know you are saying this is a lot of trouble, but not as much as being sick so much has been. The bugs are out there and because you take care of children, you are in a position to catch more. Greg congratulations to you, I think it is awesome to be considered for a position such as that. What an opportunity!!! I am happy for you so jump through all of those hoops and we will be praying for you and for Megan to get well quickly. Rest all you can Megan that will help you get better fast. Sorry for all of the mispelled words. Love you both grams PS Mike and Amy were over for dinner on Sun. and we missed you and they miss you guys so much.

Sorry to hear you are so sick. I hope you take it really easy and get to feeling better soon. Sounds like if people want good medical care for inexpensive they need to go to Europe. Go figure!

I just got caught up on all your posts! I am sorry you are so sick! If it is any consolation, I have been really sick all winter too, which is totally unlike me! Alex is finally feeling better after 2 months of ear infections and a nasty cold. I think we are both completely better, finally, I just hope it doesn't come back AGAIN! You sound like you are feeling terrible! I hope you get well soon! and that all the drugs work! :)

I'm so sorry that you are sick. What if you aren't better when you have to work? I really hope you get better soon. I hate it when I'm sick. And the worst I've had was dehydration. It was not fun.
Poor Greg, at least you don't cough constantly all night long so he can't get ANY sleep. (Hey I'm trying to look at the bright side)
I am glad Greg gets to do... what ever he is doing. It must be so exciting compared to the same everyday news.
That must be different to have the doctor come to you instead of you going to him. I'm sorry that you have to take all that medicine. For a while I had to watch Anna take medicine that she HATES. She would shiver and say she has to go to the bathroom and such. But I suppose you take pills instead of liquid.
I love you so much. I wish you could come back BEFORE 5 months.

Megan, wow, 5 prescriptions. Sigh.... The reason you are so tired is you are so sick. Antibiotics don't make you tired. So sleep girl, a lot more than you usually do. Your doctor came to your house?! Is that normal? I can't imagine. Darin sees anywhere from 20-45 patients a day. He could never do home visits. Wow. Congrats on the NATO thing Greg. Wow again. Sorry I keep using that word. I just don't know what other word to use. I'm very happy for you both. Chunky Monkey for breakfast. Yum. Love you. PS I posted.

that is crazy about the prescriptions. I don't agree with my mom about the flu shot, Penny said she got the flu every year after the shot, this year she did'n't get one and she didn't get the flu. I swear the same thing happens to my mom. I love you!!
