Greg and I bought this on craigslist and trust me when I say the picture makes it look a lot better. This thing was DIRTY and DINGY and GROSS.
Then we turned it into this!
We're not 100% done. I still need to recover the arm pads and ottoman. Greg painted it and I recovered the foam pads. I must say, I LOVE IT!!!! It looks so hip and will tie right into our red black and white theme for Scarlet's room. Granted, this is the only thing in the room of that color. But it's a start. I was very hesitant and went back and forth on whether or not I could even DO this. Most carfty things I try, blow up in my face. It was SO EASY!!! Really! It's not PERFECT, but it's pretty close and I don't think most people will notice the imperfections. My sisters have been into this for awhile now and I feel like I've finally joined the club and REALLY want to do other projects. But I'm not sure what to do now or where to put what it might be. We've sort of filled up the house, furniture wise. Anyway. I was excited and had to share!
Another project. Greg found this on YouTube- The Moby Wrap. It sort of looks funny, like a little jedi like, but it's amazing!
It is BY FAR the most comfortable baby carrier I've ever used. It's simply incredible. And it's just a GIANT piece of fabric. You can buy them online for $40, but Greg found a great tutorial online on how to make your own. So we did! Well, should I said GREG did. Look at all that fabric.
It's amazing. I can finally get stuff done when she wants to be held! And I can do work and not feel like I'm ignoring her! It's great! I've been going in walks with her in it and she just falls asleep and she adds weight to my work out. I know it looks funny, but it's not uncomfortable at all. The way it goes across your shoulders the weight is all spread out and doesn't hang down in any one spot. It's simply the best!

the chair looks great! I want to try something like that- but we just have our hand-me-down couches and I don't want to put the effort into re-doing the covers because we hopefully won't have them for too much longer. But the chair looks awesome- and i'm loving the carrier. so cool.
Oh my gosh I love all the new stuff on your blog! I swear I just checked and there was nothing new, now there's TONS of good stuff. She is so beautiful and all those videos are so fun. I remember taking videos of all the same things and I MISS those cute new baby noises!!!
You guys are so crafty...your carrier, the rocker, AWESOME!!! I'm not surprised because you have always been so creative and artistic with great style. I'm jealous you have a husband who likes to help you with that stuff.
Scarlet is gorgeous and so are you!! I am going to call you back this week!!!
Love you!
Wow! What a great blog!! First Scarlet looks soooo good! I can tell she's put on weight. I love how she was almost laughing. Thank you for the cute pics and videos! I always have felt like I know Lizzie's children because she blogs and expecially includes pics and videos. Your chair is totally awesome!!!!! It is great! I don't know if I will ever join the club. I want the club to do some furniture for me!
I am sooooo excited for you about the baby carrier! I had one that was not comfortable, but it was a life saver. I carried Rebecca around everywhere and like Scarlet she always fell asleep or as she got older loved it cause she could watch everything I was doing. I am so glad everything is going better! Hope you can make it this weekend, but will understand if you can't.
love you!!!!
OH MY GOSH THAT CHAIR IS AMAZING. I bet if you enter it into "better after" or "all things thrifty" you would be featured, seriously. It is so amazing! And I love the color combination!! LOVE IT! Too bad you're not putting it out in the front room- cause it's so cute! But it's going to make such an adorable baby room- I love the black red white theme. And didn't pat happen to make a baby quilt out of those colors? I love the baby carrier- it was fun seeing you in the video! haaha. I cannot believe how much fabric that took! yowsa! How much did it end up costing? All those sling fabric things scare me, I feel like the babies are suffocating. Scarlet is SOOOOOOO CUTE! She is adorable in those videos- I watched it so many times. SHe is the happiest most smily baby I have ever met. She is just a happy soul. I really hope you come this weekend! And- you shoud take a pic of the red thing you painted, I could see it in the backround, it looked so good. Now you understand why we all love decorating so much- I'm so glad you've joined the club! And seriously- that chair is incredible! love you!
Scarlet looks so cute in that wrap thing- i just love it. she's like your little kuala bear
Love the chair! Those colors look great together. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of her room.
I just saw a lady at my work a couple weeks ago with a wrap like that. She said it was a lifesaver, I'll have to try it.
The chair is so cute! Good job! Man I have wondered about those kinds of baby carriers. Looks fantastic!
Wow- okay first things first. I LOVED THAT VIDEO! She is seriously just the cutest. I love her so much and am SO EXCITED for the reunion to see her and hold her! Ummm the chair looks AWESOME! See, I knew you could do stuff like that if you really wanted! It looks soooo good, really. And the sling! That is so awesome! I'll definitely have to do that when I have a baby someday. LOVE YOU!
Oh my, that first picture of Scarlet is super adorable! Seriously, you have a doll baby. A smiley little doll baby with awesome hair. And your chair is amazing, GREAT job!
I'm so glad wrapping her works for you! She's soooooo so cute stuck there on your tummy. I love wearing my babies, so easy and handy and lovely having them right there under your nose. Perfect head-kissing range :) Those nice stretchy ones are great while they're small, and then as she gets heavier you can get more supportive ones. Looks like you got it all figured out well, too. My sister is a master wrapper, her babywearin' stash is quite impressive. I LOVE mei tei baby carriers, especially when baby gets bigger. Quicker to put on, not so much fabric, etc. Check out babywearer.com, it's a good site with lots of babywearing (and other) info.
She is so cute MEg. I can't WAIT to meet her. Thanks for posting the videos. ANd thechair looks great.. it loos really hard to do.
The chair is awesome!! Great job and you said you don't have a crafty bone in your body. I tried one of those wraps and I couldn't get the thing figured out. I will have to try again.
LOVE the chair! The sweet baby too!!! ;o) And I TOTALLY LOVE the Moby Wrap! I bought a cheaper knock-off version called "The Ultimate Wrap", but it's the exact same thing. It is literally the most comfortable baby carrier ever: I used it as a sling, belly-to-belly, and forward facing with both of my boys! Just a little more difficult as they got heavier because the fabric was so dang stretchy...but I still used it for the first year or so easily!
I can't wait to see pictures of Scarlet's room when you have it finished--the red and black sounds awesome. ;o)
I love the chair and the "wrap." You should bring it to the reunion. The theme for Scarlet's room sounds so cool! It matches her name! I loved the noises she made on the video. It was almost the 'googy goo' thing. I love you! :)
